Boys basketball: EHall, Jefferson, Bluff take region wins

RABBITTOWN — East Hall used a huge third quarter to erase a halftime deficit to rally for a 70-62 win over Flowery on Tuesday in Region 8-4A action at the East Hall gym.

The win for the Vikings (8-2, 1-1 Region 8-4A) kept them from an 0-2 start in the region. The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Falcons (7-3, 1-1 Region 8-4A).

The two teams were tied at 17 after the opening period  and Branch pulled out to a 32-18 lead at the break behind 14 points from Jackson Owens. But East Hall stormed out to start the second half.

Clete Cooper and Christian Torres caught fire in the third quarter pouring in 16 combined points as the Vikings used a 24-12 quarter to take a 52-44 lead into the fourth quarter. The Falcons could regain the lead down as Cooper poured in 10 of his game-high 29 points in the final period.

Torres finished with 15 points, 13 in the second half. C.J. Agborsangaya added 14 points for East Hall.

Owens paced Flowery Branch with 18 points but was held to just a pair of field goals in the second half. Tyleek Worth had 17 points and Jack Burney 11 for the Falcons.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 61,
WEST HALL 43

The Bears opened the game with a 15-4 spurt to grab the lead and never looked back in picking up their first Region 7-3A victory of the season.

Carlos Marlow poured in 17 points to lead Cherokee Bluff, who also snapped a three-game losing streak. Justyce Sadler added 12 points and Jhace Justice had 11 for the Bears.

Bluff led 30-16 at the half and took a 47-32 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Andrew Martin led West Hall with 13 points. Owen Jenkins had 11 for the Spartans.

West Hall (3-7, 0-3 Region 7-3A) had now lost five straight after a strong start.


JEFFERSON 74,
CEDAR SHOALS 53

The Class 4A No. 6 Dragons started strong and finished stronger in taking a huge Region 8-4A road win in Athens.

The win kept Jefferson (8-1, 2-0 Region 8-4A) the only unbeaten team in the region in the earlier going after Flowery Branch also lost to East Hall. Cedar Shoals fell to 8-2, 1-1 in Region 8-4A with the loss.

Jefferson led just 13-10 after the first quarter and 28-21 at halftime. The Dragons increased their lead to 51-41 heading in the fourth but blew the game open with a 23-12 run to close the game.

The Dragons were led by Dalen Gales and Tra Harrison with 17 points apiece. JT Fulkrod had 14 for Jefferson.
