Boys basketball: No. 4 Jefferson knocked off by Mill Creek; Eagles beat Johnson; Lakeview falls

JEFFERSON — Class 4A No. 4 Jefferson fell from the ranks of the unbeaten on Saturday.

The Dragons were knocked off 62-53 by Class 7A Mill Creek at The Arena.

Jefferson was led by Dalen Gales with 16 points. Kadin Bailey added 15 and Tra Harrison had 14 for the Dragons.

Up next for Jefferson (7-1, 1-0 Region 8-4A) is No. 10 Cedar Shoals (2-3, 1-0 Region 8-4A) on Tuesday in Athens in a huge early region battle.


EAST JACKSON 64,
JOHNSON 52

The Eagles (1-6) led from start to finish but needed a second-half run to pull away from the Knights for their first win of the year on Saturday.

The loss kept the rebuilding Knights (0-7) winless so far.

East Jackson opened with a 14-8 first quarter but Johnson pulled within 31-26 by halftime. But the Eagles increased their lead to 50-41 by the end of the third quarter and outscored the Knights 14-11 in the fourth.

Eli Buffington led East Jackson with 15 points.

Johnson was paced by Jake Shaw with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Jaiden Riley and Alex Flores each had 9 points for the Knights.

Johnson will jump back into Region 8-5A play on Tuesday traveling to Walnut Grove.


ST FRANCIS 70,
LAKEVIEW 36

Isaiah Rico scored 18 points and Jack Collins has eight in the Lions (4-3, 2-1 Region 6-A Private) loss to St. Francis on Saturday.

Drew Robinson hit a game-high 25 points to lead St. Francis. Lakeview falls to St. Francis 70-36.
