After the Georgia High School Association's reclassification meeting on Wednesday, Rabun County has found itself in Class A.
In an effort to solve the problem in Class A Private, after several schools left for the Georgia Independent School Association two weeks ago, the GHSA will now put its newest proposal in front of the Executive Committee for approval.
The committee ultimately decided to apply the 3.0 multiplier on all schools in Class A Public and Private, which resulted in five private schools moving up to Class 3A, Savannah Christian, Wesleyan, Hebron Christian, St. Vincent's Academy and North Cobb Christian, and Savannah and Woodville-Thompkins into Class 3A to help even out Class 2A.
The multiplier also shifted some schools into Class 2A, and in an effort to even out the three classifications, KIPP Atlanta, Therrell and Central-Macon were flushed to Class 2A and Rabun County dropped to Class A.
According to the committee minutes, Class A, which will now house all private and public schools together, will be split into two divisions -- a large school division and a small school division.
Commerce and Riverside Military will be placed into the large division, and Towns County will play in the small school division. There will be two different playoffs.
The GHSA will allow schools in Class A - 3A to appeal their placement. The new plan passed 15-1, with Commerce athletic director and softball coach Donnie Drew voting no.
