TV the latest accomplishment for young Justus

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

Hudson Justus finally found something that makes him nervous.

The now 10-year-old Mount Vernon Elementary golfing phenom won the prestigious Nick Faldo Hurricane Finals back in October to highlight a banner 2021 season.

The event, played at The Barefoot Resort Love course in Myrtle Beach on Oct. 18-19, was televised and will be rebroadcast on CBSSports today (Wednesday) at 7 p.m.

The annual tournament had two qualifiers for the southeast  -- The Bears Best in August and Chateau Elan in Braselton in September -- and then the finals at Myrtle Beach over a three-month period.

Justus won the overall title by two strokes, shooting a 73 in the opening round and then a 72 on the final day in Myrtle Beach.

But Justus, who turned 10 today, said that was the easy part.

"It was really cool, but I was a little nervous playing on TV," he said a day after the tournament. "I was way more nervous during the interview (afterwards)."

Next up for Justus will be the US Kids Regional in West Palm Beach, Fla., in December in the 9-year-old group. He won the 8-year-old event last year.

He then will compete in an Under Armour tournament in the 9-11-year-old division in Tampa in February. Justus is currently ranked in the top 6 nationally in the 9-11-year-old Under Armour division.
