Man allegedly stabs, kills mother in unincorporated Lawrenceville

Authorities have arrested an 18-year-old accused of stabbing and killing his mother in unincorporated Lawrenceville Thursday morning.

According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, the victim in the incident was Marcia Chance, 42, of Lawrenceville. Chance died of stab wounds.

Chance's son, Varian Hibbert, 18, of Lawrenceville, has been arrested and charged with the death. Hibbert is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony.

Hibbert remained in the Gwinnett County Detention Center as of 4 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities first responded to the home on Misty Valley Court shortly before noon in regards to a domestic assault. Officers found Chance dead inside the home when they arrived.

A woman was killed Thursday morning in unincorporated Lawrenceville, and authorities have a person of interest in custody.

According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly before noon to a home on Misty Valley Court in regards to a domestic assault. 

When officers arrived, they found the victim dead inside the home. Police have arrested a suspect, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. 

Detectives are currently trying to determine a motive in the assault, and the Crime Scene Unit is processing the scene. 

Gwinnett County Police said the names of the woman and the suspect in the case are being withheld until next of kin has been notified.
