Dawsonville grandfather dies in single car accident

A Dawsonville man has died in a fatal, single-car accident that occurred Tuesday evening.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Stacy William Lewis, age 53, was traveling north on Afton Road in Dawson County when he attempted to negotiate a sharp curve to the right.  Lewis veered suddenly in the opposite direction. The Chevy 2500 pickup truck he was driving crossed the center line, went off the roadway to the left, and down an embankment. The vehicle struck a tree on the driver’s side of the truck and Lewis died from his injuries.

The accident happened just before 6 p.m. near Amicalola Church Rd., according to the Dawson County Sheriff's Office. Authorities say they do not know why the truck veered across the opposite lanes.

Also in the car was Lewis’ grandson. The 10-year-old was taken to Egleston Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
