GBI investigates the death of a Forsyth County inmate

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the death of an inmate at the Forsyth County jail.

Around 2:50 a.m. on Wednesday, an inmate was found unresponsive. The jail nurse, along with deputies tried to resuscitate him while they waited on emergency services to arrive. A short time after the arrival of emergency crews, the inmate was pronounced dead.

The inmate has been identified as 63-year-old Rhett Anderson of Cumming. He was arrested Saturday, November 13, 2021, on a warrant for a probation violation for failure to appear. He was housed in the medical unit as part of detox protocols.

Earlier in the morning, around 2:28 a.m., deputies doing rounds reported that Anderson was sleeping.

A press release from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office says that Anderson suffered from alcohol abuse, along with multiple medical issues.

Anderson’s body was transported to the GBI medical examiner’s office as part of the investigation.
