Local and state fire investigators are searching for the person or persons who set fire to the outside of a Dahlonega residence while the occupant was inside.
The State Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's Office said in a press statement that Lumpkin County Emergency Services asked for help from state investigators after the fire was reported on Thursday, Oct. 28.
The fire, which was reported just after 5:45 a.m., had been set on the exterior of the 1,900-square-foot residence on Chestatee Springs Road. Damage to the residence was minimal, according to investigators.
"The occupant was home at the time of the fire and immediately called emergency services," said Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner King. “Investigators determined the fire started on an exterior wall of the structure and was intentionally set. Anyone with information about this Lumpkin County fire is invited to call my Fire Investigations Unit at 1-800-282-5804.”
A reward of up to $10,000 is offered by Georgia Arson Control for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for arson.
