Multiple middle schoolers taken to the hospital in Forsyth County after sharing gummies

On Friday, a Forsyth County school was put on lockdown to investigate after multiple students reported feeling ill.

Students from Otwell Middle School were sharing gummies that another student had brought from home. The gummies were found to be over the counter supplements containing 5mg of melatonin.

A total of 11 students got sick. All of them were taken to Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, as a precaution, but were reported to be in stable condition. Two of the students were more seriously ill and taken to Northside Forsyth Hospital, according to CBS46. There was no word on how many gummies the students ingested.

Students were all tested for TCH, as well, but the results came back negative.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has said they are investigating. The school district has not said if any disciplinary actions will be taken.

Melatonin is a hormonal supplement that most people use as a sleep aid. According to mayoclinic.org, the most common side effects include dizziness, nausea, headache and drowsiness.
