Volleyball playoffs: Bluff upsets Morgan County to advance to Final Four

MADISON — Cherokee Bluff pulled off one of the biggest upsets so far in the Class 3A girls volleyball tournament on Tuesday.

The Lady Bears, the Area 7-3A champions, went on the road on took down 2020 state runner-up Morgan County, 3-1, in a best-of-five match, winning all three sets by just two points.

Oconee County out of Area 8-3A knocked off defending state Westminster 3-2 on Tuesday as well.

Cherokee Bluff now moves on to the semifinals on Saturday at Perry High School. The Lady Bears will take on Greater Atlanta Christian

Bluff opened the match with a 27-25 win in the first set but the Lady Bulldogs tied the match taking the second set 25-14. The Lady Bears reclaimed the lead with a 26-24 third set win and finished off Morgan County winning the fourth set, 27-25, to advance to the Final Four.

GB Cornett had 16 assists, 7 blocks, 7 kills and 2 digs and to lead Cherokee Bluff. Madelyn Levine had 24 assists, 2 digs, and 1 ace, Emma Staples had 17 kills, 3 aces and 1 dig, Sage Sutulovich added 12 Kills, 2 digs and 1 ace for the Lady Bears.

Sierra Piland had 5 blocks, 3 kills and 1 ace, Olivia Owens had 4 kills and 2 blocks, and Brandyn Peterson added 4 blocks and 1 kill for Cherokee Bluff.
