A controlled burn that got out of hand could be the cause of a fire that destroyed some buildings and a camper on Ridge Lane in Lula Wednesday afternoon.
Banks County Fie Chief Steve Nichols issued a statement saying fire crews responded to the scene just before 5:30 p.m. and found a camper, garage, outbuildings and the area around each fully involved with fire.
Nichols said they were able to contain the fire to the area of origin, but it took more than seven hours to do so.
The resident of the property was home at the time and was not injured. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
Nichols said the cause of the fire has been ruled accidental. The property has been listed as a total loss.
