Clayton woman dies from injuries sustained in same wreck that killed young son

A Clayton woman who suffered critical injuries in a vehicle accident Wednesday, Oct. 6 has died from her injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol confirmed Gretchen Echols, 41, died Saturday, Oct. 9 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Her son, Ian Echols, 8, died immediately following the two-vehicle crash on Highway 76 at Charlie Mountain Road. 

A joint celebration of life service for mother and son will be held Friday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. at Beck Funeral Home in Clayton.
