ATHENS — It was the defense that helped Jefferson roll past Cedar Shoals, 34-9, on the road Friday.

The Dragons held Cedar Shoals to 139 total yards of offense, but it was close early on.

After Tre Reece and Sammy Brown put the Dragons ahead 14-0 on rushing scores with 1:55 to go in the opening period, the Jaguars scored nine straight points to close the game, 14-9.

Stats McGhee scored on a two-yard run and also booted a 27-yard field goal with 2:22 to go in the first half.

The Dragons, however, answered a minute later when Max Aldridge hit Jack Eubanks on a 20-yard strike with 1:36 left in the half to push ahead, 21-9.

After that, Jefferson's defense dug in, shutting out the Jaguars in the second half, while adding two more scores on a Reece 32-yard run, and an Isaiah Copeland five-yard run.

Reese Johnson led the Dragons with 114 yards on 13 carries, while Reece finished with 92 yards on six totes. McGhee finished with 103 passing for the Jaguars.
