Girls basketball: Jefferson, Lumpkin earn big region wins; Rabun Co. storms past Rabun Gap

A trio of area teams picked up wins on makeup game Thursday. 

Averie Jones scored a game-high 34 points to lead fourth-ranked Lumpkin County (17-4, 8-1 Region 7-3A) past Cherokee Bluff (6-16, 1-8 Region 7-3A), 71-34, and remain at the top of the Region 7-3A standings with White County. Mary Mullinax added 15 points, and McKenzie Caldwell chipped in 14. 

In Rabun Gap, Gracie Deetz poured in 25 points in Class 2A No. 3-ranked Rabun County's win over Rabun Gap in a non-region contest, 75-57. Sophie Woodard netted 19 points for the Lady Wildcats (14-4). 

And in Jefferson, the No. 1-ranked Lady Dragons (16-3, 8-0 Region 8-4A) stormed past Chestatee, 76-31, to sweep the series. The War Eagles (9-11, 2-6 Region 8-4A) battled Jefferson to an overtime loss on Jan. 5, but couldn't get the offense rolling in Game 2. 

Ellie Kinlaw led the Lady Wildcats with 18 points, Deshona Gaither pitched in 14, and Allianne Clark scored 12 points.
