Barrow County Emergency Services had a busy day Wednesday as two large fires needed assistance within less than an hour of one another.
First, around 3:20 p.m. they were called to a chicken house heavily involved in fire.
According to a press release from Captain Scott Dakin with Barrow County Emergency Services, when emergency crews arrived to the scene on Hancock Bridge Road, the chicken house was already in flames.
“The barn was off the roadway and our firefighters could not get the fire engines up to the scene,” stated Captain Scott Dakin. “They had to pull hose and connect them in order to have enough to reach the fire.”
The barn was heavily damaged, and firefighters worked quickly to stop the fire from spreading. One donkey died as a result of the fire.
Then, less than an hour from the first call, they were called to a home on Blueberry Lane. Firefighters were dispatched to the incident and found a home also heavily involved in fire. “A rapid search was conducted in the home by first arriving firefighters and no victims were found,” stated Captain Dakin. “Crews then worked to quickly extinguish the fire.”
Two adult residents were displaced as a result.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.
