Boys basketball: Dragons, Panthers get region wins; Raiders, Eagles fall

JEFFERSON — Jefferson opened the game with a 24-6 run and never looked back in taking a big 78-52 win over East Hall in Region 8-4A action Friday night at The Arena.
 
It was the fourth straight win for Jefferson  (7-3, 2-1 Region 8-4A). East Hall (4-10, 0-3 Region 8-4A) dropped its third straight.

The Vikings cut into the lead early in the second quarter but Jefferson pushed its lead back to 36-22 by the intermission. The Dragons exploded again with a 23-10 third quarter to blow the game open.
 
Romaine Harriott led the Dragons with 17 points. Dalen Gales added 16 points and JT Fulkrod had 12 for Jefferson.


JACKSON COUNTY 68,
JOHNSON 33

 
The Panthers got their first Region 8-5A win behind an impressive defensive effort on the road.

Jackson County (6-4, 1-4 Region 8-5A) held Johnson (3-6, 1-3 Region 8-5A) to single-digit scoring in three of the four quarters.

The Panthers led just 11-7 after the first quarter but pushed the lead to 29-18 by halftime. They outscored the Knights 20-9 in the quarter to blow the game open.

Max Brown paced Jackson County with 16 points. Kalib Clinton added 15 for the Panthers.

Johnson was led by Wade Pearce with 17 points.


DACULA 61,
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 45

Gabe Omoregie had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Falcons to a Region 8-6A win over the Raiders.

Habersham Central (7-7, 0-4 Region 8-6A) fell behind early on the road and never recovered.
Grant Tipton paced the Raiders with 20 points. Gunnar Bramlett added 11 points and Malachi Dooley 10 points for Habersham Central.

Lamariyon Jordan had 12 points and 5 rebounds for Dacula. Moussa Barry chipped in 10 points for the Falcons.


OCONEE COUNTY 78,
EAST JACKSON 45

 
The Eagles dropped a Region 8-3A game.

R.J. White led East Jackson with 22 points. Zach Oechsle paced Oconee County with 24 points.


LUMPKIN COUNTY 54,
WEST HALL 30

The Lumpkin boys traveled to Oakwood and picked up a key Region 7-3A road win over West Hall on Friday.

The Indians (6-6, 2-2 Region 7-3A) jumped out to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter and led 25-16 at the half.

Lumpkin scored the first six points of the third quarter to stretch the lead to 15, and led by double digits the rest of the way, outscoring West Hall 29-14 in the 2nd half.

Lumpkin was led by Jones Harris’s double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Chandler Pulley also scored 16 to go along with 5 assists. Gus Faulker scored 9 with 6 assists.

West Hall was led by Chase Reed with 12 points.

Lumpkin is back in action on Saturday at Gilmer in another key region road game.
