Homeowner will not be charged in shooting death of woman outside home

A woman found dead outside a Dacula home early Wednesday morning was shot by the homeowner in an apparent act of self-defense.

Gwinnett County police detectives said Azahani Ellis, 27, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin had been invited to the home on Rabbit Hill Road, but she tried to rob the homeowner and fired a shot at him as she fled from the house. They said Ellis returned to the residence and tried to re-enter by breaking a window next to the front door. The homeowner shot her as she came in the front door. 

The name of the homeowner was not released. He will not be charged.

A homicide investigation is underway in Gwinnett County after a woman was found dead in her vehicle Wednesday morning. 

The Gwinnett County Police Department reported officers were called around 3 a.m. to a location on Rabbit Hill Road in Dacula to investigate a report of gunshots at a residence. When officers arrived, they found a woman in a vehicle across from the residence suffering from at least one gunshot wound.  The woman died at the scene. 

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, there was no motive available and investigators were working to identify the victim.
