Three region openers, including Gainesville in Region 6-7A, will highlight Week 5 action around northeast Georgia and on the Jacobs Media airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN on Friday night.
The Red Elephants (2-1, 0-0 Region 6-7A) put a tough loss to rival Flowery Branch behind them last week with a dominant win over Discovery. Now, they will get their Region 6-7A schedule under way traveling to take on Forsyth Central. The Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 Region 6-7A) are undefeated and have looked solid in the early going. However, Gainesville is 3-1 all-time against the Bulldogs in Cumming. It is the first meeting between the two programs since 2001 and will go a long way in setting the tone for the entire region. East Hall (2-1) already has matched its entire 2019 win total and will try to continue its best start since 2017 traveling to take on an improving East Jackson (1-1) squad. The Vikings feature their 'Air Raid' passing attack behind junior quarterback Clete Cooper, who already has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in just three games. The Eagles let a second half lead get away from them in a loss to Gilmer last week. And on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live), North Hall and Chestatee will resume their annual clash at War Eagle Stadium. The Trojans have dominated the series winning 16 of the 18 all-time meetings. However, both teams come into the 2020 showdown sporting identical 0-3 records. North Hall is rebuilding a team that lost 20 starters to graduation. The War Eagles are battling injuries, including the loss of Power 5 quarterback/defensive back Christian Charles. But both teams have a chance to claim some momentum with region schedules slated to begin next week.
