North Georgia Technical College has established two memorial funds to honor late President Dr. Mark Ivester.
Donations to the memorial funds will finance an endowed scholarship fund and a renovation of the college’s historic gymnasium into a community and student wellness and learning center.
The projects were established to recognize the leadership and contributions of Ivester, who died Sept. 12 following a short battle with COVID-19. Ivester served in numerous leadership roles at NGTC for more than 20 years.
“Dr. Ivester’s focus was always on our students and our community,” said NGTC Interim President Michele Shirley in a statement Thursday. “Our college is memorializing him in ways that would offer support to our students. We are pleased to announce that the NGTC Foundation has established an endowed scholarship to honor his memory to assist students, especially at this critical time of need for so many people. We are also working to revitalize the historical gymnasium building on campus that meant so much to our community and offer student learning and programming for future generations. We are thankful to have so much community support to help memorialize such a tremendous president, leader and friend.”
Donations to the Dr. Mark A. Ivester Memorial Scholarship or the Gymnasium Wellness and Learning Center may be given online or mailed to the NGTC Foundation, P.O. Box 65, Clarkesville, GA 30523. Donations are tax-deductible and the family will be notified of scholarship and gymnasium renovation contributions.
