Softball: Buford stays perfect in 8-6A; North Hall beats White County in 8 inn; Tuesday roundup

BUFORD — Buford opened the game with a four-run inning and closed out an impressive 11-3 win over Dacula on Tuesday with a four-run sixth in taking another big Region 8-6A contest at home.

The win pushed the Lady Wolves to 20-3 overall and a perfect 10-0 in Region 8-6A play. Buford will continue region play on Thursday, playing host to Winder-Barrow at 5 p.m. at the Buford Softball Complex.

It was a far cry from the two teams' previous meeting, a tight pitcher's duel and a 1-0 Buford win.

Senior Abbi Perkins paced a 9-hit Buford attack with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and 4 RBIs.She also scored two runs. Once again a pair of freshman in Madison Pickens (triple, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored) and  Mackenzie Pickens (one hit, one RBI, 2 runs scored) were right in the middle of the offense.

Junior Taylor Malvin had two hits, including a triple, scored three times, and stole two bases, and sophomore Chloe Hatcher invoked the mercy rule with a RBI hit in the sixth.

Senior Riley Reese (4-1) got the win going 4 1/3 innings allowing three runs on four hits and striking out three. Freshman Emma Grace Williams got the save going 1 2/3 and fanning one.


LANIER 12
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 4

Habersham Central could not hold a 4-0 lead as Lanier used a 7-run sixth run to rally for a big Region 8-6A win on Tuesday.

The Lady Raiders scored a run in the first on a RBI groundout from Kilee Thomas and then plated three runs in the third on a RBI single from Hailey Wade and a two-run single from Brayden Staton.

But Lanier began its comeback with a run in the fourth, four more in the fifth, and then put in away with its big sixth-inning outburst.

Kyla Quiles took the loss for Habersham going five innings, allowing 11 runs on 11 hits.

Taylor Wade had two of the Lady Raiders’ five hits.

Lanier racked up 13 hits for the game.


NORTH HALL 8
WHITE COUNTY 5 (8 inn)

Kristen Dowdy’s two-run double capped a three-run eighth inning to spark North Hall to Region 7-3A win over White County on Tuesday.

Two batters earlier, Kristina Peach scored on a Ashley Callahan ground ball to break the tie.

Reagan Water threw 4 1/3 innings giving up three runs; Kendal Clackum closed out the fifth inning facing three batters and giving up no runs; and Bre Stowers came in the sixth and got the win pitching the final three innings giving up two runs and striking out two.

North Hall jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first and made it 3-0 in the fourth. White County tied it with a three-run fifth but North Hall reclaimed the lead with two runs in the sixth.

White County trimmed the lead to 5-4 in the sixth and sent it to extra innings with a run in the seventh.

Callahan led a 15-hit North Hall attack with four hits. Peach had three hits and two RBI, Sam Rooker added two hits and two RBI, Macy Slater a hit and a RBI, Anna Reeves had two hits, and Kristen Dowdy and Waters each had one hit for the Lady Trojans.


COMMERCE 11,
LAKE OCONEE ACADEMY 0

Carson Hobbs pitched a no-hitter and struck out eight to lead Commerce to a win in five innings over on Tuesday.

Commerce scored single runs in the first and second before exploding for seven runs in the third.. The Lady Tiers added single runs in the fourth and fifth to put the game out of reach.

Maggie Mullis and Hobbs each had to hits and two RBI for the Lady Tigers offense. Graci West and Emma Davis had a hit while Kylee Taylor hit and an RBI. Anna Taylor added three RBI for Commerce.
