MT. AIRY — In a key Region 8-6A battle, Buford once again showed it will be the team to beat for the region title.

The Lady Wolves scored in all but one inning in a 14-1 win in five innings over Habersham Central on Tuesday on the road.

With the win Buford (17-2, 9-0 Region 8-6A).remained unbeaten in region play. And the manner of the victory shows the Lady Wolves may be hitting their stride as the regular season winds down. They took a slim 2-1 win over the Lady Raiders (14-8, 5-4) earlier in the season.

Freshman Mackenzie Pickens was a one-person wrecking crew, belting a trio of homers and setting a new school record with 9 RBIs in the game.

Pickens hit a solo shot in the first, a grand slam in the second, and ended the day with a three-run blast in the 5th inning, which invoked the mercy rule. She has five home runs in the last two games, and six now for the season.

Buford opened the game with a pair of runs in the first and Habersham, on an RBI hit from Hailey Wade scoring Taylor Wade, cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the first. It was all Buford from there.

The Lady Wolves scored five in the second, four in the third, and closed it out with three more in the fifth.

Senior Abbi Perkins also homered twice, both solo shots. Sophomore Olivia Duncan scattered four hits and struck out four in four innings.

Taylor Wade and Brayden Staton also had hits for the Lady Raiders.
