Softball: LeBlanc double in 7th lifts Branch past Jefferson; Monday roundup

By AccessWDUN Staff

FLOWERY BRANCH — Flowery Branch’s Nikki Harris and Jefferson’s Ravyn Saxon went toe-to-toe in the circle on Monday in a critical Region 8-4A showdown at the Hogs Mountain Sports Complex.

Harris surrendered just two hits and no runs and struck out four in seven innings, while Saxon only yielded four hits and fanned three in 6 1/13 innings.

Amanda LeBlanc’s double to center scoring Alyssa Wagner in the bottom of the seventh turned out to the all the Lady Falcons needed in a 1-0 victory.

Maleia Truelove and Beatty had the two Lady Dragons’ hits.

LeBlanc had two of Flowery Branch’s four hits.

The Lady Indians used a six-run fourth inning to erase an early Dawson County lead en route to a Region 7-3A win in Dahlonega.

The Lady Tigers took a 1-0 in the first on an RBI groundout by R Erickson. It stayed that way until Lumpkin’s big fourth inning.

In the fourth, Lumpkin County got all its runs on big-flys. Alyssa Pulley smacked a one-out two-run homer to give Lumpkin the lead.
Lauren English later followed with a grand slam to center to make it 6-1 lead.

Lumpkin County added two more runs in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Amma Johnson and an error.

Reese Moore started the game for Dawson County going 3 1/3 innings allowing three runs on six hits and striking out one. Layne Bailey threw 2 2/3 innings out of the bullpen giving up five runs on five hits for the Lady Tigers.

Emmie Graham got the win for the Lady Indians allowing just two runs on three hits while fanning three.

The Lady Wolves continue to roll on taking a big win over former region foe Walnut Grove at home behind a career-game from freshman Mackenzie Pickens.

Pickens hit a 2-run home run in the fourth inning and added a 2-run blast in the fifth. The home in the fifth provided the walk-off. Pickens was 3-for-4 at the plate, with 5 RBIs for the game.

While Pickens was providing the offense, fellow freshman Emma Grace Williams was having another strong outing in the circle, throwing a no-hitter into the 5th inning. Walnut Grove broke up the no-hitter with a 2-run home run by Kennedy Votava.

Buford freshman Tavye Borders also three hits, including an RBI-triple in the 5th.

Buford (16-2, 8-0 in Region 8-6A) resumes region play on Tuesday, traveling to Habersham Central.

The Lady Raiders fell behind early, rallied to take the lead, but a big fourth inning by the Lady Indians was the difference in a non-region battle.

Stephens County scored a run in the first but Habersham claimed the lead in the top of the fourth on a Joey Handlos double to center scoring Preslee Hix and Sadie Hawkins.

But Stephens County answered with its big inning and the Lady Raiders could not get closer.

Hailey Wade took the loss for Habersham going six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits.

Handlos and Kyla Quiles each had two hits for the Lady Raiders.

Jackson County’s rally fell short on Monday in a tough loss to North Oconee.

The Lady Panthers got the tying run into scoring position but could not the game.

Jackson County trailed the entire game as North Oconee scored single runs in the second and third innings for a 2-0 advantage. It stayed that way until the seventh.

In the seventh, Whitney Hulsey doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a ground out. Huley later scored on a Raeghan Thompson single. Thompson moved to second on an error but could get across as the game ended on a groundout to second.

East Hall scored 10 runs in the first inning en route to a 15-0 win in three innings over Cedar Shoals on Monday at East Hall Park.

The Lady Vikings pounded out 12 hits, led by Calli Hardison and Callie Dale, who combined for four hits and 9 RBIs in the game. Lacei Bunte added two hits and two RBI, Gracie Ausborn and Abi Mullins had two hits, and Brooke Hewell and Elvie Armour had one hit apiece for East Hall.

They invoked the mercy rule with five more in the third.

Maggie Banks got the win pitching a 1-hitter while fanning four.
