Football: Jefferson at Rabun County headlines Week 3 radio lineup

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

Week 2 was chock full of high-scoring barn-burners. But Week 3 may be even better.

Three showdowns on the Jacobs Media airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN should give fans plenty to get excited about.

The annual Battle of Oakwood is here once again as West Hall travels to Billy Ellis Memorial Stadium to take on Johnson. Both are coming off losses as the Spartans dropped a heartbreaker to East Hall last week. The Knights had the week off to reassess after a rough 44-0 loss to Cherokee Bluff to open the season. Johnson won its first ‘Battle’ last year in seven years and you know the Spartans will be ready to try and extract some revenge. You can listen to the game on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).

In one of the marquee matchups of the season, Class 4A No. 2-ranked Jefferson and Class 2A No. 1-ranked Rabun County will stage what could be an epic battle in Tiger. Both teams are coming off big wins. Jefferson blew out Central Gwinnett last week 61-7 behind a diverse offense and a stingy defense. Rabun County scored late in the fourth quarter to knock off Prince Avenue, 38-31, in a game that was played on ESPNU to a national audience. You can hear that game on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).

And Gainesville and Flowery Branch will renew their rivalry on Friday at Falcon Field. The Falcons are coming off a thrilling win over Dawson County, 45-42, as they rallied from early and late deficits against the Tigers. Gainesville, meanwhile, was off last week after the Red Elephants' big win over Stockbridge two weeks ago. They will be looking for another big road win as they continue to get ready for what should be an exciting Class 7A schedule. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).

Friday Game Night will keep you in tune with all of these contests and more. Be sure to check in with us throughout the night and keep up with live scoring on twitter: @FridayGameNight.
