Commerce dominates in opening win over Banks County

HOMER — Commerce's Dreylan Martin set the tone early for the Tigers in a 41-18 win over Banks County on Friday at Leopard Stadium. 

Martin scampered for a 72-yard run with 9:37 left on the first-quarter clock to give the Tigers (1-0) a 7-0 lead and followed it up with a 19-yard scoring run late in the quarter that extended the Tigers' lead 20-0. 

In between, sophomore quarterback Trey Huff hit Sammy Brown on a 25-yard strike.

Banks' first score was a 39-yard pass from Bowen Roberts to Carter Stroud as the first quarter expired. Roberts added another Leopard score with 4:14 left to close the gap, 20-12, but the Tigers would answer late with a Brown 3-yard run and a 27-12 half time lead. 

In the second half, Brown danced 49 yards for a score and Huff scored a 6-yard keeper in the third quarter to blow the game open 

Banks County's Cooper Smith connected on a 1-yard pass to Caine Griffith late. 

Banks County (0-1) will travel to Franklin County on Friday, while the Tigers travel to Union County. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
