Gwinnett County Police searching for kidnapping suspect

By AccessWDUN Staff

A woman was able to escape a recent carjacking and kidnapping incident in Gwinnett County, leaping from a moving vehicle with her one-year-old baby.

Cpl. Collin Flynn with the Gwinnett County Police Department said investigators are now asking for the public's help as they look for the suspect in the case.

Flynn said the incident was captured on surveillance video at an Exxon gas station on Boggs Road.

"The victim called 911 and told police that she stopped and purchased fast food while on her way home on the night of August 18th," Flynn said in an email statement. "After purchasing her food, she stopped at the gas station to park and eat. The victim can be seen on surveillance eating her food at the trunk area of her car while her one-year-old child is asleep inside."

Flynn said the video shows the male suspect walking up Boggs Road toward the gas station. When he saw the victim, the suspect changed direction and walked toward her.

"The victim was visibly startled by the male when he walked up behind her," Flynn said. "The male reached for what the victim believed was a gun and punched her in the face multiple times. The male told the victim to get in the back seat of the car with her baby while he got in the driver’s seat. The vehicle can be seen on surveillance leaving the scene with two of the car doors wide open."

Flynn said the suspect demanded money from the woman, and he told her he would kill her.

"Fearing for her life, the victim grabbed her baby’s car seat with the child inside and jumped from the vehicle. As she jumped from the vehicle, the suspect kept driving," Flynn said.

He said the woman was treated for injuries she suffered as she jumped from the car. The baby was not hurt.

The woman's car was found abandoned in the city limits of Duluth the day after the crime.

Flynn described the suspect as a black male, between 35 and 40 years-old. He is about 6' tall and weighs about 200 lbs.
