Positive coronavirus case closes Spout Springs Library until Tuesday

A staff member at one of the Hall County Library branches has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the closure of the Spout Springs branch.

Library Director Lisa MacKinney issued a statement Monday announcing the Spout Springs Library branch will be close starting Monday for cleaning.

"Per our COVID-19 protocols, the library will be deep cleaned and disinfected. We are tentatively scheduled to reopen the facility on Tuesday, September 1," said MacKinney.

This closure is the first for the library system since they reopened almost all of the branches to the public last week. The Gainesville branch downtown was the only location that did not reopen, due to construction.

While families, students and community members wait for the Spout Springs branch to reopen Tuesday, many library services can be accessed elsewhere, such as GALILEO, the state's virtual library, E-read Kids, which offers e-books for youth readers, ReferenceUSA, a reference and research tool, and others. All can be accessed via the Hall County Library Systems website.

MacKinney added that Blackshear Place, Murrayville and North Hall branches were all still open for those who wanted to needed physical services, like computing.

"This includes the ability to use the library's wi-fi systems, which are accessible from the parking lots of any of our branches," said MacKinney. Many curbside services are also available for citizens who do not wish to come inside the various facilities. However, in-person services for notary and passport applications remain by appointment only.
