A 5-year-old Flowery Branch girl was killed and four adults received minor injuries Saturday night in a three-vehicle accident on Athens Highway at Smallwood Road.

Tania Sanchez-Fierros was a passenger in a 2006 Honda Odyssey driven by Sandra Fierros Nunez, 42, of Flowery Branch. Nunez was on Smallwood Road attempting to cross Athens Highway at about 10:20 p.m Saturday.

The Georgia State Patrol said in a news release said Nunez stopped at a stop sign, but then proceeded into the intersection and into the path of a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Alberto Gomez Rivas, 20, of Gainesville. The truck stuck the minivan on the driver's side. The impact spun the minivan around and it struck the passenger side of a second pickup truck.

Nunez and a second passenger in the minivan, Samantha Sanchez-Fierros, 22, of Flowery Branch, suffered minor injuries. Rivas and his passenger, Jasmine Gomez, 22, of Gainesville also had minor injuries. The driver of the second pickup truck, Luis Caudillo, 20, of Gainesville was not injured.

The state patrol said charges are pending in the accident.
