Franklin County residents arrested after shooting in Lavonia

An incident that began as an armed robbery attempt in Lavonia early Wednesday left one man shot and in serious condition and three people in jail.

At approximately 12:40 a.m. Aug. 26, Lavonia Police Department responded to Pine Street after a 9-1-1 call about the incident.

Derion Joheim Morrison, 18, of Lavonia, was charged with aggravated assault. Haley Elizabeth Shaw, 17, and Hannah Ruth Shaw, 17, both of Canon, were charged with party to the crime of aggravated assault, said Special Agent in Charge Jesse Maddox of the GBI’s Athens office.

“The incident began as an armed robbery attempt and resulted in one man being shot,” Maddox said in a statement. “He was transported to a local trauma center, where he remains in serious condition. More arrests and additional charges are expected.”

The victim’s name has not been released.

Lavonia police were assisted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
