GAINESVILLE — Lanier Christian Academy became the first northeast Georgia area team to open the 2020 football season Friday night.
The Lightning, playing in a new 8-man league in the GAPPS classification, lost a wild 36-34 affair to King's Way at Cabbell Field.
It was high-flying first quarter as LCA (0-1) fell behind 22-16 but the Lightning rallied to tie the game at 22 by halftime. King's Way used a big third quarter to run out to a 36-28 lead and LCA mounted a comeback.
LCA pulled within the final score late but could not get the game-winner.
Senior quarterback Andrew Perry had a huge game combining 359 yards of offense. He was 9-of-15 passing for 161 yards and 3 TDs and rushed for 198 yards and two more scores. Senior Wyatt Cash led the way receiving with 98 yards and 2 TDs for LCA.
