A Gainesville man who shot his wife in the stomach on Wednesday is now in jail on multiple charges. Steven Noel Turner, age 43, faces charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery, among other things.
The initial call placed to 9-1-1 indicated an accidental shooting at the couple’s home off of Cove Road off Thompson Mill Road. Emergency services treated the victim, a 42-year-old woman, taking her to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Her injuries are not life-threatening and she was in stable condition as of Thursday evening.
Turner, who placed the 9-1-1 call for his wife, willingly gave authorities the handgun.
According to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, when deputies went inside to check for any other individuals in the home, they found two marijuana grow rooms in the basement of the home. Deputies notified the Gainesville/Hall County Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (MANS Unit) and agents obtained a search warrant. They found approximately 38 marijuana plants, numerous containers of THC oil and a quantity of psilocybin mushrooms. Possession and intent to distribute charges were added to Turner’s list of crimes. Agents arrested Turner on the drug charges at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.
At the same time as the drug investigation was happening, the Sheriff’s Office Persons Unit detectives continued to dig deeper into the initial shooting. Investigators determined that Turner intentionally shot his wife during an argument.
The case is still under investigation.
