FLOWERY BRANCH — Cherokee Bluff's Shad Dabney has committed to play for Les Miles and the Kansas Jayhawks.

The 6-foot senior defensive specialist made his announcement via Twitter on Monday. He becomes the 20th commitment in the Jayhawks' Class of 2021.

Dabney, a 247Sports three-star athlete, who'll be a key part of the Bears' success in 2020, is the No. 94-ranked athlete and No. 122-ranked Georgia player, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Dabney played most of his high school career at Riverside Military Academy but transferred after RMA canceled the 2020 season due to COVID-19. His current coach, Tommy Jones, said he's fired up for Dabney.

"I have no doubt that he will have a ton of success at Kansas," Jones said. "He is a hard worker, has an extremely high football IQ and is one of the most competitive players I’ve ever coached."

Dabney had a slew of offers, including Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Miami (Ohio), Princeton and Syracuse, among a host of others.

Riverside football coach Nick Garrett coached Dabney for two seasons and said he has all the intangibles a coach looks for in an athlete.

"Shad is a special young man he has all the intangibles you want in a student first and an athlete second," Garrett said. "The young man desired to be challenged and encouraged at the same time but always competed at the highest level possible.

"Camron Shad Dabney was intellectual about the game and also demanding of himself and others to exceed expectations in the classroom, in the halls and on the field I am excited for him and his family and know he will do a great job this year at Cherokee Bluff.

"I have had players play on Sundays, and he is light years ahead of them at this point."
