Softball: East Hall, Buford take big wins

FLOWERY BRANCH — East Hall pounded out eight hits and took advantage of 11 walks in taking a 12-1 win over Cherokee Bluff Saturday in girls softball action.

The Lady Vikings (7-1) scored in every inning but the first. They exploded for six runs in the second and third innings and put the game away with a five-run fifth.

Ansley Ivey belted a three-run home run and Callie Dale had three hits and three RBI to lead the East Hall offense. Calli Hardison and Abi Mullins each had a hit and and RBI for the Lady Vikings.

Calli Hardison got the win scattering three hits and striking out nine in four innings. Maggie Banks pitched a perfect fifth for East Hall.\


BUFORD WHIPS No. 9 HERITAGE-CATOOSA

Much like East Hall, the Lady Wolves offense exploded for 15 hits in getting a big win in the Hawk Invitational at the Buford Softball Complex.

Buford scored three runs each in the first and second innings to take a 6-2 lead but Heritage, who came in ranked ninth in Class 4A and undefeated, rallied back with four runs in the fifth to tie the game. The Lady Wolves used a five-run sixth to reclaim the lead en route to the victory.

Freshman Emma Grace Williams earned her second win of the season going the distance allowing six runs -- four earned -- while giving up nine hits and fanning two batters.

In the pivotal sixth innings, Buford's big inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from freshman Madison Pickens, the  first of her high school career, and a three-run blast from senior Abbi Perkins.
