BATON ROUGE — LSU coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday that defensive end Justin Thomas has left the Tigers -- again.

It's the second time Thomas has left the team since the middle of last season when he initially departed personal reasons. Orgeron has not gone into detail about Thomas' decision but says LSU wishes him the best and calls his departure “unfortunate.”

Thomas is the third defensive player to leave the team recently. Senior cornerback Kary Vincent Jr. informed the team Monday that he's opting out to focus on the NFL draft and last week defensive end Neil Farrell Jr. opted out.

A 'New Zou': It won’t take long for Eli Drinkwitz to learn just how far he has to go in building a “New Zou.”

The new Missouri coach should have had a relatively soft opening against Central Arkansas on Sept. 5, then three more winnable non-conference games against Eastern Michigan, BYU and Louisiana-Lafayette.

But when the COVID-19 pandemic caused the Southeastern Conference to go with a league-only schedule, those four schools were dropped entirely. In their place? Perennial powerhouse Alabama in the opener Sept. 26 and national champion LSU two weeks later.
