4 arrested, 3 at large following Monday home invasion in Gainesville

Three suspects involved in a home invasion in Gainesville Monday remain at large.

The three black males were among five suspects who fled from the incident at Spring Valley Apartments off Thompson Bridge Road, according to an update from Gainesville Police late Tuesday afternoon.

Police said shots were fire between Austin Owens, 18, a resident of the apartments, and the five individuals just before 5 p.m. Monday. When police arrived, the five drove off in a blue Volkswagen Jetta, but crashed in a wooded on Hollywood Avenue near Hollywood Circle.

With the suspects fleeing on foot, Gainesville Police, Hall County Sheriff's Deputies, Georgia State Troopers and Department of Natural Resource Rangers engaged in a manhunt. They were able to apprehend Montavious Cooper, 19, of Lithonia, with the help of Gainesville K-9 officers during a search of the crash site perimeter.

Over the next few hours, Gainesville Police said they received a call about a stolen boat in the Harbor Cover area off Honeysuckle Road. State Patrol Aviation located the boat oddly-positioned in the water near boat docks on Club Drive, and ground units responded to find the boat and Jermaine Stephens, 19, of Atlanta.

A citizen on Honeysuckle Road called 911 when they saw a suspicious car driving around the neighborhood. Aviation once again located the vehicle and ground officers stopped the car, a GMC SUV.

The driver, Krystal Foster-Simmons, 26, of Decatur, was affiliated with Stephens, Gainesville Police said, and was attempting to pick him up after the home invasion.

Back at the apartment complex, investigators located marijuana, and determined during the initial investigation that Owens possessed a felony amount of marijuana for distribution.

The four people arrested face varying charges:

Jermaine Stephens was charged with two counts of home invasion and one count of theft by taking; Montavious Cooper was charged with two counts of home invasion; Krystal Foster-Simmons was charged with one count of party to a crime.

Austin Owens was charged with felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, felony manufacturing marijuana and felony possession of a schedule I drug.

The suspects that have not been located are described as three black males, all of whom were among the five suspects fleeing from the home invasion in the Jetta. Anyone with information in the case is urged to contact 911 or call 770-534-5251.

"At this time, we advise our community to remain vigilant and call in for any suspicious activity," the latest update from Gainesville Police stated. "This is still an active investigation with more information developing and we will provide updates as they become available."
