Ray Cook captures Super Late Model victory at Dixie

By Jeff Smith

Ray Cook made his first appearance of the season at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia pay off in a big way, as the veteran racer scored the Super Late Model feature win on Saturday night.

Cook, of Brasstown, North Carolina, used his experience to move forward from his fifth place starting position to pick off the leaders one-by-one through lap traffic.

It wasn’t long before he closed on the back bumper of leader Justin Shipley, who managed to hold the top spot for several laps. Cook used an inside pass to claim the lead in turn one, and was never challenged again en route to the victory at the historic 3/8-mile clay raceway.

T.J. Reaid followed in second, with Jason Croft in third, Shipley in fourth and Austin Smith in fifth.

Shawn Chastain, Tyler Millwood, Johnny Chastain, Jake Knowles and Scott Hall rounded out the top 10.

In other action, Landon Bagby garnered his second win of the season over Oliver Gentry in the Steelhead Late Model feature. Jacques Daniel raced his way into a third place finish trailed by pole sitter Rucker Orr in fourth and Curtis Cline in fifth.

Logan Palmeer led most of the distance in the Crate Late Model feature, but Will Roland made a late race pass for the top spot. Roland went on to take the win, with Palmer in second, Tanner Collins in third, A.J. Carlisi in fourth and Tim Clark in fifth.

Justin Wakefield was once again in Victory Lane in the new Open Wheel Modified Division after Gary McPherson slipped on the last lap and fell back to second. Bo Jordan followed in third, with Dwayne Collins in fourth and Steven Hite in fifth.

Chris Hough held off Chris Sizemore for the 602 Sportsman win. Daniel Brewer finished third, with Jesse Goss fourth and Sawyer Tinker in fifth.

Dan Meadows scored his first Economy Bomber feature win of the season, with Eric Hamby, Jeremy Williams, Justin Begley, and Dylan Armstrong rounding out the top five.

Jason Young recorded his fifth straight Street Stinger feature win of the season. Rick Ricks followed in second, with Jonathan Nelson in third, Michael Karp in fourth and John Sanford in fifth.
