Downtown Gainesville streetscape improvements to start August 10

Phase Two of the City of Gainesville's Downtown Streetscape Improvement Plan will go in to motion next month.

The street beautification project is designed to extended the streetscape from the Square, and will enhance pedestrian access to downtown Gainesville, according to Christina Santee, public relations manager for the city.

Starting on Monday, August 10, crews from Gainesville's Strickland & Sons Pipeline will start the new phase of improvement projects on Washington Street at the intersection of E.E. Butler Parkway. Santee said once completed, crews will move on to Green Street, between Washington and Spring Streets.

Then, they will move to Spring Street, in between E.E. Butler Parkway and Bradford Street; then wrapping up phase two on Bradford Street, between Washington and Academy Streets.

Work on the second phase should last into February 2021. Phase one wrapped up in November 2019. The entire beautification project is planned to be completed by summer of 2021.

Because the work does involve the roads, Santee encouraged motorists to watch out for workers and expect a temporary lane closure.
