Overton nabs third Southern Nationals title at Tazewell

By Series PR

Brandon Overton wrapped up the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series 2020 season as the 2020 champion in the series finale at Tennessee’s Tazewell Speedway Saturday night.

It marks the second straight and third overall series title for the Evans, Georgia racer, who won the title by 20 points over Chris Madden.

The title came on the strength of six wins over the course of the 12 race series, including victories at Wythe Raceway, Senoia Raceway, Needmore Speedway, Screven Motor Speedway, Cochran Motor Speedway and Crossville Speedway.

The series wrapped up the final four races of the season beginning on Tuesday, July 21 at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina, where Chris Madden claimed his third victory of the season.

The win earned the Gray Court, South Carolina racer a $3,500 payday.

Overton followed in second, with David Payne in third, Tyler Millwood in fourth and Jake Knowles in fifth.

On Thursday night, Overton led start-to-finish to score the victory at Tennessee’s Crossville Speedway, making it four straight years of victories at the 1/3-mile, high banked dirt oval.

The $3,500 win also marked Overton’s 19th career series win.

Madden finished in second, followed by Cory Hedgecock in third, Donald McIntosh in fourth and Tyler Millwood in fifth.

On Friday night, Madden made his fourth trip to Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series victory lane with a win at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tennessee.

Madden captured the $10,053 first place prize, while Dale McDowell, Cory Hedgecock, Overton and Ross Bailes rounded out the top five.

That led to the series finale on Saturday night, where Dakotah Knuckles claimed the biggest win of his career by picking up the $10,053 first place prize at Tazewell Speedway.

The Ewing, Virginia racer became only the fourth different winner on the 12-race tour.

Michael Chilton finished in second, with Ryan King in third and Vic Hill in fourth.

Overton finished in fifth to wrap up the series championship.
