GAINESVILLE — Evan Thompson maintained his lead in the 2020 City Championship after Saturday's second round at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.
The Athens native fired a 2-under par 70 for a 9-under total and holds a three-shot lead over defending champion Grant Crowell and Wilson Baker. Crowell shot a second-round 67 while Baker carded a 68 to get to 6-under par each. Pep Brown sits fourth at 2-under followed by Andrew Hughes at 1-under par.
The final round will be held Sunday morning.
In 1st Flight action, John Yarger posted a round of even par 72 and has a slim two shot lead over Phillip Austin (74). Gene Weschler is five back at 77 followed by Rob Boetz at 78.
Casey Silcox, Jeff Williams and Larry Lykins are jammed at the top of the leaderboard in the 2nd flight. All 3 players finished the first round shooting identical 80's. Brandon Stephens and Doug Glidden are lurking close behind with opening round 82's.
