Gainesville teenager drowns at Balus Creek Park

A teenager swimming from a dock on Lake Lanier has drowned. According to Mark McKinnon of Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources, 17-year-old Cristofer Acosta-Farias, of Gainesville, was swimming to the shore at Balus Creek Park when he went under and did not resurface.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Hall County Fire Department and Georgia Game Wardens all responded to the call just after 4 p.m. on Friday. His body was located a short time later using DNR Side Scan sonar and was recovered by the Hall County Fire Department.

"We're glad we were able to make a quick recovery of him so that his family can have some closure in this," McKinnon said.
