Mic'd Up: Habersham prepping for new region slate

MT. AIRY — The 2020 Mic'd Up series begins at Habersham Central High School and John Larry Black Field this week.

The Raiders and coach Benji Harrison have been navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic with every precaution prescribed by the Georgia High School Association since June 8, and, on Monday, the GHSA allowed teams to strap helmets on.

Harrison the players were excited to get helmets this week.

"I think it was important," he said. "We're not doing anything much different than we did last week, but there's something about when you put helmets on the kids realize that it's getting closer. It looks more like football. I think it picks the energy up a little bit. When you add something new, with all the stuff these kids had to deal with the last few months, that looks like football is around the corner, it gets them excited."

On this hot summer morning, Harrison and the Raiders were having fun with the usual 7-on-7 drills.
