A 17-year-old driver was killed in a single-vehicle traffic accident in North Georgia on Wednesday, July 15.

Georgia State Patrol Post 32 in Athens said Evan Michael Davis of Commerce was driving his SUV on State Route 98 near Patton Lane in Madison County just before noon when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled down an embankment and overturned. Troopers said Davis died at the scene.

The passenger in the vehicle, 17-year-old Emma Lafaye Davis of Commerce, was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers said both teens were wearing their seat belts.

The Athens Banner-Herald reported the driver and the passenger were twin siblings. Evan Davis was a standout baseball player for the Commerce High School baseball team, according to the newspaper.
