Nearly 10,000 gallons of sewage spilled into a Forsyth County tributary on Wednesday morning.
The spill apparently occurred at a manhole in the Suwanee portion of the county, located on Golf Club Drive.
"The Forsyth County Department of Water and Sewer was notified at 7:15 a.m. and the overflow was stopped at 9:00 a.m.," explained Karen Shields with the Forsyth County Department of Communications. "The main cause was determined to be cleaning rags and construction debris."
The spill, which entered an unnamed tributary of Dicks Creek, was approximately 9,450 gallons in volume.
Shields said the surrounding area was cleaned, and lime was spread by clean-up crews. Signs notifying residents about the spill have also been posted in the area.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division was notified about the spill, in accordance with state regulations.
