Football: GHSA releases finals schedule

The Georgia High School Association state football championships will be a three-day affair in December.

The GHSA released the finals schedule on Wednesday. Traditionally, the finals, since moving to a neutral site in 2008, have been conducted over two days. But with the addition of two flag football championships for the first time, it will require three days to complete the now-10 different classifications.

The finals will be held from Thursday Dec. 10 through Saturday Dec. 12 at Georgia State Stadium. The three-day event will open with the Area 1 flag football championship game. It will end on Saturday with Class 7A title game.

The AccessWDUN overage area around notheast Georgia will have 23 teams competing in all eight classifications.

Here is the schedule for the three-day finals event:

Thursday, Dec. 10 
Flag football, Area 1, noon
Flag football, Area 2, 2 p.m.
Class A Private, 5 p.m.
Class A Public, 8 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 11
Class 2A, noon
Class 4A, 3:30 p.m.
Class 6A, 7 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 12
Class 3A, noon
Class 5A, 3:30 p.m.
Class 7A, 7 p.m.
