Coroner identifies Virginia man who drowned Sunday in Lake Burton

Keith Hill, 57, of Gainesville, Va., died after he jumped into Lake Burton Sunday morning, went under and didn’t resurface.

Rabun County Coroner Sam Beck released Hill’s identity after notifying his family, saying Hill died in an accidental drowning at a friend’s house on the lake.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources Game Wardens, Rabun County Fire Services and Rabun County Emergency Medical Services personnel were called to the incident shortly before 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

DNR personnel pinpointed the man’s location and dive teams from Towns County and from Oconee County, S.C., arrived and recovered the victim, said DNR Maj. Mike England.

The incident was north of Governor’s Cove.
