A 21-year-old Cumming woman is dead after a Cobb County car accident that occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 24.

The Cobb County Police Department’s STEP Unit says Heather Blackwelder died from injuries after her involvement in a two-car collision at 4:33 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Shiloh Road and Walton Green Way.

The driver of the second vehicle in the incident, 24-year-old Anthony Cardoso of Kennesaw, was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Cardoso also had a passenger in his vehicle, 17-year-old Alexander Cardoso, who was not injured.

Investigators from the Cobb County Police Department believe Cardoso’s silver 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling north on Shiloh Road when Blackwelder’s white 2000 Lexus RX300 initiated a left turn to travel south on Shiloh Road. Blackwelder’s vehicle entered the path of the Dodge Ram 1500, which then collided with the left side of the Lexus RX300. The Lexus RX300 then rolled over onto its right side and came to a stop.

Personnel from the Cobb County Fire Department were able to remove Blackwelder from the Lexus RX300, at which time she was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She succumbed to the injuries later that evening.

The Cobb County Police Department is still investigating the collision and urges anyone with additional information to contact investigators at 770-499-3987.
