A Rabun County man is behind bars, facing multiple charges related to the possession of child pornography.
Aaron Andrews, 37, faces three counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children, and was arrested Wednesday following an investigation that began after he allegedly shared files containing child pornography online.
Natalie Ammons with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said Thursday that Andrews' arrest was pursued by the GBI's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, with an assist from local law enforcement.
"[The] GBI was assisted with the arrest of Andrews and with the search of his residence by the Rabun County Sheriff's Office and the Clayton Police Department," Ammons said. "The search warrant and arrest warrant were related to an investigation being conducted by the GBI's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit."
The investigation and subsequent arrest were carried out as part of an ongoing effort by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, which Ammons said is part of the GBI's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit. The task force works to identify and prosecute those involved in the child pornography trade.
"The ICAC Program, created by the U. S. Department of Justice, was developed in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the Internet, the proliferation of child pornography, and the heightened online activity by predators searching for unsupervised contact with underage victims," Ammons continued.
At last report, Andrews remained in custody at the Rabun County Jail.
