The Hall County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Gainesville man on Thursday, June 11, on charges of rape and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

21-year-old Jose Tomas Pedro is accused in the rape of a female juvenile during the early morning hours of Sunday, May 31, 2020. Prior to the incident, the victim communicated with Pedro through social media, according to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

According to an initial investigation, Hall County Sheriff’s Office Investigators found that a relative of Pedro drove him to meet the juvenile victim in her neighborhood, then dropped the two off at Pedro’s residence on Georgia Avenue off of West Ridge Road. Pedro then provided the victim with alcohol and sexually assaulted her, according to the press release.

Pedro’s relative drove the victim back to her neighborhood later in the morning on May 31. However, the relative was unaware of the incident, and does not currently face charges.

As of Monday morning, Pedro remained in the Hall County Jail without bond. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the case.
