Georgia Powder Coating named top company in its field

By AccessWDUN staff

A northeast Georgia business learned this week that it has been rated number one in its field by a leading industry publication.

Gainesville’s Georgia Powder Coating claimed first place in Product Finishing magazine’s “Top Shops Benchmarking Survey” for powder coating in 2020.

Product Finishing’s list annually honors the top 50 most well-rounded shops across all of North America, and this marks the sixth straight year that Georgia Powder Coating earned its way onto that roll. However, it is the first time Georgia Powder Coating claimed the elite position of No. 1. And it is an honor that the company will both commemorate – as well as utilize as a benchmark going forward.

“To get to the top spot on that list is very significant, just knowing the competition that is out there,” said Georgia Powder Coating vice president of sales Dallas Cooley. “We’re proud to be there and proud to be based here in Georgia; Georgia is a great state to do business in.

“We will celebrate this right now, but we’re not going to sit back and enjoy it for long, because our business continues. And we are not going to take our minds and hearts off of what we pledge to our customers and the service we provide.”

Since 1999, Georgia Powder Coating has applied powder coating, which is similar to paint in the finishing process, to products from original equipment manufacturers and job shops. The company also offers media blasting and further packaging and has grown both in size and esteem in its short existence.

Begin with four employees in an 8,000-square-foot facility in the back of a poultry processing warehouse, Georgia Powder Coating currently employs around 100 people in a 35,000-square-foot facility that occupies approximately six acres. The company’s six straight years on the Top Shops Benchmarking Survey reflects the esteem with which the company is now held throughout the industry.

“What really separates us from our competitors is that we put an emphasis on customers and serving our customers that isn’t often found in the manufacturer’s setting,” Cooley said. “We work really hard at this and have more of an atmosphere that you would find in retail rather than manufacturing.

“We’re in a pretty rigorous continual improvement model, and we’re always looking for ways to improve. It’s a never-ending task, but we love what we do, and we love our customers.”
