The body of an unidentified person was recovered from a Dawson County river on Tuesday, and authorities are working to determine the man's identity.
Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that a group of people found the body while kayaking in the Amicalola River. The kayakers were apparently in an area just north of Steele Bridge Road.
The man's body was recovered after a joint effort from the Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and will be autopsied by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Johnson said investigators working to identify the body have been searching for an abandoned vehicle along various access points north of the recovery site, as well as checking for any reports of missing persons from surrounding counties.
