The state of Georgia reached its lowest number of hospitalized COVID-19 positive patients since early April, according to information released Tuesday afternoon by Gov. Brian Kemp's office.
The number on May 20 was 986, the lowest number since hospitals started reporting data to the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) on April 8.
The number represents an approximate 12% decrease in hospitalizations in the last week when 1,125 patients were hospitalized on May 12; it's a 35% decrease from the 1,500 patients hospitalized across the state on May 1. A total of 7,076 Georgians have had to be hospitalized for treatment of COVID-19.
"Our hospitalization numbers continue to show encouraging signs in our fight against COVID-19, but we must remain vigilant in our efforts to combat this virus," said Kemp in a press statement. "I continue to ask Georgians to practice social distancing, follow the advice of public health officials, and protect the elderly and medically fragile."
